He tells Debra that the doctor told him his adenoids have to come out.
Born a Catholic, she embraced evangelical Protestantism as an adult, and now attends a Presbyterian church and advocates on behalf of an anti-abortion group called Feminists for Life.
Robert laments how the whole world has to stop because Ray is having a routine procedure, and states that the only reason he is there is because Marie dragged him there since he is the same blood type as Raymond.
The family tells jokes to lighten the mood, of which Marie disapproves; she says that she needs to go to the bathroom and when she returns everyone should have a sign of concern.
Debra keeps dropping hints for Ray to ask her out - but he's too stupid to pick up on it at first. He knocks on the door, and thinks she said "Come in" - but she really said "Coming". She makes up an excuse that the futon leg is loose and he has to come fix it.
He shows up the next day to fix it, but the leg isn't loose at all. She fixes "Lemon Chicken" which Ray says is so good he could eat it the rest of his life (believe me, he will).
